Skiathos

Skiathos is located only a few kilometers off the mainland (Pelon peninsula). The island has an area of 47 km˛. Approximately 5500 people live there. It is part of the Sporades group. It is the furthest to the west in this group.

The island is not particularly big but quite popular with tourists. One reason is the convenient location but strangely enough it is also very popular with package holiday makers from northern Europe. There of course is a very good reason why. The beaches on Skiathos are simply astonishing. And there are plenty. The island has a good reputation for nightlife as well and so comes together what belongs together. As a result accommodation and restaurants are slightly more expensive than on other islands.

The island at this stage is so popular that it is sometimes difficult to find a spot on the beach. Despite this popularity the local capital (also called Skiathos) remains somewhat authentic.

Worth seeing are the beaches (most of all the beach of Koukounaries), the Monastery of Kounistras and the mountainous inland. If you like it quiet or look for the “real Greece” Skiathos is definitely the wrong place.
